In an effort to promote progress in the field of AI, the Dutch government challenged entrepreneurs to develop new human-oriented AI based products, services or product/service combinations for parties in the public sector. The aim of this Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) competition was to develop and test human-centric AI solutions for societal challenges of the public sector, within the following 3 themes:

  • The functioning of democracy and the relationship between citizens and government
  • Possibility to improve participation in society
  • The compliance of (the implementation of) AI systems with human rights

Twelve companies have been selected to implement their projects between december 2021 and september 2023. Among these twelve are four companies from our Zuid-Holland ecosystem:
